2013 IYF Cheer General Information and Registration FAQ
Below are some Frequently Asked Questions with answers. They provide information on youth Cheer eligibility, costs, when the season starts and registration.
Q: Who can participate in IYF Cheer?
A: Cheer is open to students entering 3rd - 8th grades living within the Issaquah High School boundary.
A: The registration fee for Cheer is $75. This cost helps cover, insurance, facility rentals, and supplies. This fee is non-refundable. First year cheerleaders are also required to pay the full uniform fee of $355. Cheerleaders who return next year will be able to re-use their uniform as long as it still fits appropriately and the style has not been changed. No refunds will be given after June 1.
Returning cheerleaders will be required to pay $100 for new 2013 uniform items. If a returning cheerleaders uniform does not fit, they will need to purchase a new one at the fitting session or buy one from the uniform swap. Returning cheerleaders that are missing any of their uniform items from the previous season, or their uniform is not up to standards, will be required to purchase replacement items. No refunds will be given after June 1.
A:We are an intensive 3.5 month program.We require 75% attendance to participate in Issaquah Youth Cheerleading Program. Our first three weeks is a critical learning period.We understand we will have cheerleaders involved in others sports during this time period.We need strong communication from these individuals about their other commitments.Coaches will evaluate each of these cases on an individual bases to make sure the individual cheerleader is successful as well as their squad.
Our season is August - mid-November. Youth football will play 9 total games, all on Saturday’s, leading up to the playoffs.We will cheer in the playoffs for our football teams that continue and play on home field or nearby away games.
New cheerleaders (1st season) will practice August 6 (Tuesday), August 7 (Wednesday), and August 8 (Thursday).
Practices for ALL CHEERLEADERS (New and Returning) will begin August 12 (Monday). There will be 4 practices per week for the first 3 weeks (Mon-Thurs).The week of Sept. 2nd we will begin 2 times per week practices.Practices will be in the evenings for 1-1/2 hours at a local Park space (Last year we practiced at Tibbetts, PCMS, and other school gyms. Exact times and locations TBA once schedule of fields is released).
New for 2013
We will have try-outs for a competition squad.Try-outs will be in September. This squad will practice intensively from October-February.This Competition squad will compete at 2 competitions in the NW area.
A: The cheer team will be divided into squads which will cheer for the football levels of: Rookie, Cub, Sophomore, JV and Varsity. 3rd – 5th grades will be divided to cheer for the Rookie, and Cub levels and the 6th – 8th grade cheerleaders will be divided to cheer for Sophomore, JV and Varsity levels. Our goal is to make sure each Issaquah Youth Football team has cheerleaders present for all home games . All squads will be supervised by a qualified coach.
A: IYF is an all volunteer organization. Parent participation is required to sustain the organization. IYF Cheer has many volunteer opportunities ranging from fund raising, coaching, a team parent, team photographer, team music manager for games, practice attendant, etc. We do realize that, in some cases, it may not be possible to volunteer. In those cases, we request a minimum $50 donation be made to the organization.
Q: How can I help IYF Cheer?A:We are looking for volunteers to be in charge of individual squads. No previous cheer experience is required. We need 1-2 adults per squad (We will place you with your child’s squad unless specified otherwise). These adult volunteers will be attending all the games scheduled with their squad. Team parents will carry the first aid kit, help boost team spirit and promote other parent participation within their squad. We rely on our team parents to help make the season go smoothly and organized.
Q: What is the refund policy?A: The $75 registration fee is non-refundable. If a registered player decides not to particpate and notifies the IYF Cheer Squad Director before June 1, the uniform cost will be refunded. If notified after June 1st, no refund will be given.
Q: What other items will my child need for Cheer?A: Each cheerleader will need the items listed below:ALL WHITE Cheer Shoes (No color, sparkles, gems, etc.)
White Socks (no show or barely showing)
- Black Rain Jacket (There will be an optional Issaquah Cheer black rain jacket for purchase at uniform fitting.)
Black Gloves
(Prefer knit to the wrist. An example will be on display at uniform fitting.)
The above items will need to be available at every game (In your child’s cheer bag). The entire cheer squad will decide on what “additional items” will be warn based on the game day weather. A squad majority MUST be in agreement on the “additional items”. This keeps the entire team “uniform” in appearance while cheering at games. go smoothly and organized.
